Bass-baritone Henry Hyunsoon Kim, based in New York, is an emerging operatic artist recognized for his rich tone and commanding stage presence. In April 2026, he had the role of cover for Kaspar in Berlioz’s version of Der Freischütz (performed by Alfred Walker) with the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium. Following this, he appears with New Rochelle Opera in a concert production of Nabucco, performing the role of Il Gran Sacerdote.

 

In September 2025, Mr. Kim made his debut with New York City Opera in Carmen, performing the role of Dancaïro. In November 2025, he performed the role of Ferrando in a concert version of Il trovatore, produced by MidAtlantic Artistic Productions and the Seton Hall University Classical Concert Series. That same year, he appeared in the world premiere of Rossini Perduto with the Long Island Orchestra, and performed the role of Pepe (while covering the role of Christ) in the world premiere of Tin Angel with Teatro Grattacielo. Additionally, he was featured in Tribute to Napoli: Songs of Eternal Passion at the Columbus Citizens Foundation, which was met with great success.

 

In 2024, he appeared as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore with Teatro Grattacielo and the Camerata Bardi Young Artists, and was featured in the second cast of Andrew Mayo’s premiere opera Beyond the Horizon. In the previous season, he performed as Escamillo in Carmen, took on the role of Un Console, and covered Cinna in La vestale—all under the auspices of Teatro Grattacielo and Camerata Bardi. He also served as cover for Bonzo, Commissario, and Registro in Madama Butterfly with Boston Lyric Opera.

 

Mr. Kim has worked with a range of respected organizations including Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS, Boston Lyric Opera, Mannes Opera, Taconic Opera, and the Fairfield County Chorale. His repertoire includes leading and supporting roles such as Onegin in Eugene Onegin, Marcello in La Bohème, David in L’amico Fritz, Lescaut in Manon Lescaut, Giovanni in Don Giovanni, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Silvio in Pagliacci, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Barone in Il viaggio a Reims, and both Belcore and Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore.

 

He holds both a Master of Music and a Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes School of Music.
